In their first public appearance after marriage, actor couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan walked the red carpet at the opening ceremony of Cannes Film Festival.
Seven Indian films will be screened at Cannes, including Mani Ratnam’s Guru, which stars the newly-weds.
Malayalam film Saira, Tamil film Veyil, Bengali film Dosar and English film Missed Call are part of this package on Indian cinema along with art-house Hindi film Dharm and popular Bollywood hits Lage Raho Munnabhai.
Rai’s forthcoming film Jodha Akbar will also be showcased at the festival.
Production and distribution giant UTV will market the epic Mughal romance along with the John Abraham football film Goal.
Later in the week, Amitabh Bachchan and Paresh Rawal are expected to attend the market screening of Cheeni Kum, while John Abraham and Bipasha Basu will participate in a media-and-sales presentation for Goal.
After their extended honeymoon in Tahiti, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have now descended on the French Riviera. Ash, who is a regular at the Cannes fest since 2002 (when Devdaas was screened), is attending the fest this year as the brand ambassador for French cosmetics giant L’Oreal.
Ash looked stunning in an off-shoulder white gown and a diamond necklace. Abhishek looked dapperly in a formal black suit. The couple posed for photographers and walked up the steps of the Theatre Grand Lumiere for the opening film ‘My Blueberry Nights’, directed by Wong Kar Wai and starring Jude Law and Norah Jones.
Ash also posed with her fellow L’Oreal counterparts: Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh and Andie MacDowell.
