Politics News: Yuvarajyam president aloof from PRP activities

HYDERABAD: Yuvarajyam president Pavan Kalyan is back to business nursing his star image as an actor after being neglected by the party which deliberated on the post-poll scenario during the last week.

The actor has been trying to catch up with his shooting schedules which got neglected due to his extensive campaigning to attract fresh voters across the state. The actor is busy with his next big-budget film "Puli", directed by S J Surya.

According to some of the party leaders, the absence of the Prajarajyam youth wing chief, who was seen as the only firebrand leader in the party, at the meetings was proving to be a dampener.

Though several special invitees were called to the extended three-day political affairs committee meeting last week, the absence of the Yuvarajyam chief at the party’s re-structuring meet left tongues wagging. "Pavan Kalyan is the only PRP leader who dared to show his fingers at corrupt Congress leaders and take an open stand against the ruling party.

Since he has been staying aloof from party activities after the second phase of polling, several youth who plunged into active politics were looking towards the Yuvarajyam leader for further directions," said a senior PRP leader who did not want to be identified.

The last meeting, though unofficial, was chaired by the Yuvarajyam chief to discuss arrangements for the the Praja Vijayabheri two months ago.

A Yuvarajyam activist said, "We feel orphaned after not being made party to any kind of re-structuring process. Me and my Yuvarajyam members have decided to seek an audience with party president K Chiranjeevi and share our views to make a strong comeback in the local body elections, which are scheduled over the next 12 months. At present, we do not have a direction and we all strongly feel that Yuvarajyam alone can end up justifying its role as a catalyst for the growth of Prajarajyam."

When asked for a clarification from Yuvarajyam general secretary D Shravan on the absence of their president from party activities, he said, "We are being guided by Pavan Kalyan at all levels. He is keen to spreassd the message of ideological re-engineering as he is a firm believer in idealism and not populism. He will very soon reach out to the youth across the state with a firm resolve to bring about a real social change."

Politics News: Congress struggles with Cabinet berths

NEW DELHI: A surge in Lok Sabha numbers has brought a problem of plenty for Congress
, with party brass juggling names for the third consecutive day to finalize the list of Manmohan Singh’s ministry.

The party has to accommodate states which it has swept by giving them proportionate numbers while it is also being forced to take token faces from states it has been swept out from.

Meetings on Tuesday between PM Manmohan Singh and party chief Sonia Gandhi, followed by one at 10, Janpath, is said to have finalised the list, which would be given a final touch on Wednesday in a meeting between the PM and Sonia. The swearing-in is scheduled for Thursday.

The unexpected delay in finalising the list is on account of the complicated task of balancing names with caste-regional considerations. While a jump in the number of MPs is forcing the list towards the upper permissible limit of 81 members, sources said the party is keen to keep a decent number vacant for a later-day expansion.

Indications are that Uttar Pradesh may see a big contingent in the ministry, in view of the party’s eagerness to consolidate gains made by winning 21 seats. The party sees revival in UP-Bihar as critical if it is to return as the umbrella party of yore.

Andhra Pradesh, which surpassed the doomsday predictions by returning 33 MPs, has placed a high demand too. It’s a tightrope walk in states Congress has swept. While Rajasthan MPs are a hopeful lot, the party has had to look at who besides C P Joshi, accommodated in the first list, could make the cut.

Representation for Jat community may be the conundrum. If octogenarian Sisram Ola is dropped, the five-term Jhunjhunu MP’s replacement has to be from five first-timers, at best a choice for MoS. Ola was left out of 19 ministers sworn in with the PM. The party is toying with a Meena and a Gujjar leader for MoS.

Choice of two Karnataka ex-CMs -- S M Krishna and Veerappa Moily -- has led to a lot of heartburn with senior leaders Dharam Singh and Mallikarjuna Kharge having won LS seats. While ex-CM Dharam Singh is eyeing a berth, Kharge, a dalit leader, is hoping for reward after having agreed to demit the leader of Opposition’s post in the state. It took a lot of prodding to convince Kharge for Lok Sabha plunge. Their seniority, however, seems to be the constraint in view of limited Cabinet or MoS (independent) posts.

While there is jostling from Tamil Nadu for ministry, with Rajya Sabha MPs also having thrown their hat in the ring, Congress in Maharashtra is veering towards taking in one MP each from Marathwada, Vidarbha and Mumbai, besides Prithviraj Chavan. The state seems to be high on priority owing to polls inOctober.

Gujarat, where Congress staved off a mauling predicted by pre-poll surveys, is likely to see a few in the list. The defeat of Shankarsinh Vaghela and Madhusudan Mistry has opened the doors for others. Bharatsinh Solanki is a strong contender.

Uttarakhand, where Congress won all five seats, may be accommodated this time.

In J&K, Congress has offered National Conference an MoS berth while talks are on over Farooq Abdullah’s inclusion. Saiffuddin Soz is a claimant from Congress.

At the same time, the party is working out options in low-performance states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh. A leg-up for Anand Sharma as Cabinet minister has raised the enviable task of leaving out former CM Virbhadra Singh,

the sole winner from the four-seat state. Jharkhand goes to polls in coming months and representation to Subodh Kant Sahay is seen by strategists as a must. Accommodation of Charan Das Mahant, sole winner from Chhattisgarh, is a question which may be clear by Wednesday.

Politics News: FAPCCI greets Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Ministers

FAPCCI greets Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Ministers

Hyderabad, May 26 : Congratulating Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and his Cabinet Ministers, who were sworn-in yesterday, Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) President Suraj Prasad Agarwal today hoped that the new government’s focus would be on restoring the economy and bridging the gap between demand and supply.

In a statement here, he said ’’the new Cabinet has people from various sections of the society and different areas of Andhra Pradesh. We are sure the induction of new faces in the Cabinet would bring more innovative ideas and ensure effective functioning of Andhra Pradesh. designing and effective implementation.’’ He assured the FAPCCI’s ’’wholehearted cooperation and assistance in furthering the development of the State, especially trade and industry’’.

Speaking at another forum, Mr Agarwal said India’s exports in the last five years had diversified and grown, but there was substantial scope to enhance its exports further by identifying new markets and new products.

Addressing participants at an export certificate course here, he said, ’’today Indian exporters are exporting to almost all the countries, including places like Marshall Islands, Greenland, Barbados, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Burundi and Somalia.

However, there is substantial scope to enhance India’s exports further by identifying new markets and new products.’’ As a step in this direction, the Federation was bringing out an useful publication titled ’Andhra Pradesh Exporters Directory’,

which would help overseas buyers explore the market potential of Andhra Pradesh, he said, adding the Federation would organise a series of certificate courses on various issues beneficial to trade and industry.

Politics News: Govt will implement welfare schemes with new vigour: Rosaiah

Hyderabad, May 26 : The Andhra Pradesh government will implement all the ongoing welfare schemes with new vigour for the benefit of all sections of the people despite financial crunch, State Finance Minister K Rosaiah said today.

Talking to media after assuming charge as State Finance Minister for the second term, he said the people had accepted the developmental and welfare schemes launched by the Congress government during the last five years and voted the congress to power again as they had full confidence in the government.

He said despite financial crunch due to lack of expected revenues, and cut in the central allocations to the state, the government would not hesitate to spend any amount on the welfare schemes besides giving priority to irrigation, infrastructure building, communication and industrialisation for employment potential.

He said there was time till September as he had earlier presented the vote on account budget.

Financial Adviser to Prime Minister Rangarajan, former Reserve Bank Governor Y V Reddy and others, he said.

Politics News: Sonia Gandhi upset with Sanjay Dutt

Everyone knows that Sanjay Dutt was in Delhi when the election results were announced. But few people know that while in the Capital city, he connected with Madam aka Sonia Gandhi. It is believed that Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh had invited the actor to Delhi. Sure of a win, Singh asked him to come to the capital city for a meeting with Madam. But, his party lost and they never got an audience with the leader of the Congress party. However a telephonic conversation did take place.

A source confirms, "Sanju Baba spoke to Soniaji, and she expressed her displeasure over Sanju's statement, "Congress killed my father," during a campaign rally in Lucknow. She also told him that his family had always been a Congress supporter and she was disappointed by his statements against the party." It is not clear how the actor defended his statements but he expressed his concern over his impending case.

The source adds, "He feels that his Congress bashing will be used against him, now that they are in power." Dutt is presently shooting in Goa is said to be depressed about his party losing, as he'd been told that being defeated was not an option. A source close to Dutt admits that he was in Delhi but denies any meeting between the actor and Sonia, "Sanju didn't go to meet Madam in Delhi last week. He had gone for some personal work — meetings with people for his production house."

He was there to meet Amar Singh, who was unwell. Meeting madam wasn't part of Sanju's plans nor did he try to make an appointment with her. Also if Amar and he had gone to meet Madam at her residence, the entire media would have landed up there and it would become public knowledge."

Business News: Satyam to get new name, Mahindra Satyam!

Hyderabad (Deccan): Satyam Computer Services Ltd, the fraud-hit IT major, would soon get a new name and logo to distance itself from everything that is associated with Ramalinga Raju.

According to sources in the company, clients have suggested during their meeting with the top brass of Tech Mahindra, Satyam’s new owner, to rebrand the company to do away with the negative image that the name Satyam has come to represent because of the Rs 8,000-crore accounting fraud by Raju.

The top brass of Tech Mahindra are meeting the customers of Satyam Computers to convince them to continue their association with the company. The Tech Mahindra chairman, Mr Anand Mahindra, and his senior executives, Mr C.P. Gurnani and Mr Ulhas N. Yargop, are meeting Satyam’s US-based customers. Mr Vineet Nayyar, Tech Mahindra CEO, is meeting European customers and Mr Sanjay Kalra, president (strategic initiatives) is in Australia on client retention programme. The Satyam board, which has four Tech Mahindra representatives, will meet after June 1 and would decide on the new name and logo. “The rebranding exercise should be completed by June 19 — before the Satyam leadership meet scheduled on June 20,” the source said.

Politics News: Roja to continue in active politics

Tirupati, May.25:- The Telugu Mahila president and Telugu film actress, Ms Roja, on Monday felt that her party nominees in a large number of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies were defeated due to the presence of the Praja Rajyam candidates in the electoral fray.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Ms Roja pointed out that after the megastar, Mr Chiranjeevi, floated the Praja Rajyam, not only some party leaders, but also a large number of party cadre had defected to the new party thinking that Mr Chiranjeevi would repeat the feat of late Mr N T Rama Rao.

With the entry of Praja Rajyam in the electoral fray, the votes of the combined Opposition split among the non-Congress parties resulting in the Telugu Desam party missing the chance of forming the government. Despite her unexpected defeat in the Chandragiri Assembly constituency at the hands of her Congress rival, Ms Galla Aruna Kumari, Ms Roja said that would continue in active politics.

Politics News: CM gifts 'Home' to "Chevella Chellemma" Sabita

Hyderabad, May 26: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, set a new precedent and created a record of sorts while allocating the portfolios to his Council of Ministers by entrusting the all important and crucial Home affairs to a woman legislator.

After having selected his Council of Ministers with a judicious mix of experience and youth, the Chief Minister today completed the allocation of portfolios to his “Team 35” after retaining with him General Administration, Law and Order, Excise, Commercial Taxes and Power.

The Chief Minister took political circles by surprise yet again by having in his team a woman Home Minister despite the fact that the Home affairs was till now considered as the domain of men only. Thus, having full confidence in his favorite “Chevella Chellemma” Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy, the Chief Minister entrusted the Home portfolio to her besides Jails, Fire Services and Printing and Stationary.

It might be mentioned here that whenever the Chief Minister hailed from either Rayalaseema or Coast Andhra region, the Home Minister is traditionally from the Telangana region, though once in the past Dr M. V. Mysoora Reddy (now in TDP) from the Rayalaseema region served as Home Minister. Since Dr Reddy hails from the Rayalaseeam region, it was but natural for appointing a person from Telangana region as Home Minister.

Thus, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy, who was elected from Maheshwaram Assembly segment in Ranga Reddy district, found favour of the Chief Minister to secure the Home portfolio. Incidentally, her husband, late P Indra Reddy, too served as Home Minister in the past.

Seniors retain old portfolios

As expected, some of the senior members of the cabinet who had excelled themselves in their respective departments in the previous ministry retained their posts. Mr K. Rosaiah again got the Finance portfolio, while Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah retained Major and Medium Irrigation departments, Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao his earlier Revenue portfolio, Mr Kanna Laxminarayana again secured Transport and Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy retained Agriculture.

Among the five other women ministers, Ms Galla Aruna was allotted Roads and Buildings, Dr J. Geetha Reddy Information and Public Relations besides Tourism, Ms D.K. Aruna Small Scale Industries, Sugar, Khadi and Village Industries, Ms Konda Surekha Women Development and Child Welfare and Ms Sunitha Laxma Reddy Minor Irrigation.

From the city, Mr M Mukesh Goud retained his Backward Classes Welfare, while the new entrant into the cabinet Mr Danam Nagender bagged the important portfolio of Health and Family Welfare. Among the old-timers who got a change of portfolios include Mr Anam Ramnarayana Reddy who secured the plum post of Municipal Administration now, Mr Damodar Rajanarasimha was allotted Marketing and Warehousing, Mr M. V. Ramana Rao Technical Education.

The Chief Minister also allotted responsible departments to some of the new entrants like Civil Supplies to Mr Jupalli Krishna Rao, Higher Education to Mr D.Sridhar Babu, Medical Education to Mr P.Sudarshan Reddy,Rural Water Supply to Mr P.Viswaroop, Rural Development to Mr V.Vasant Kumar, Minority Welfare to Mr Mohd Ahmedullah, Housing to Mr C.Silpa Mohan Reddy and Forest to Mr P.Ramachandra Reddy.

Unlike in the past, there was no grumbling among the ministers over their portfolios and everyone seemed satisfied. Many of the ministers called on the Chief Minister and after thanking him for entrusting them with important portfolios also assured to do their best to uphold the confidence he had reposed in them.

Politics News: 35 inducted in YSR ministry, Rosaiah alone from council

Hyderabad, May.25:- The Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, constituted his new ministry by inducting 35 members, including 20 new faces, who were all sworn-in at a glittering ceremony in the Raj Bhavan on Monday evening.

The Governor, Mr N. D. Tiwari, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers amidst loud cheers and applause from their supporters and watched by a huge gathering of officials and non-officials. Except Mr P Ramachandra Reddy of Punganur in Chittoor district took oath in English, all other ministers took oath in Telugu and in the name of God.

Mr Botsa Satyanarayana and Mr Balineni Srinivas Reddy were absent when their names were called for swearing-in as they were caught in traffic jam. Mr Satyanarayana reportedly could not arrive on time due to the flight delay from Kashmir. As Mr Mukesh Goud was stranded in the traffic jam, he reportedly abandoned his car and reached the Raj Bhavan by a two-wheeler, while Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah had to trek to Raj Bhavan for similar reason.

Dr Reddy, who was sworn-in as Chief Minister at a gala ceremony held in the sprawling Lal Bahadur Stadium on May 20, carried the list of his new team to New Delhi for seeking approval of the Congress High Command. After securing the nod from the Central party leadership including Ms Sonia Gandhi, Dr Reddy returned to the State Capital this afternoon and the swearing-in of the new ministers was held at 6.40 p.m.

While constituting his new team, the Chief Minister seems to have made a balancing act to provide an opportunity to the experienced as well as new faces. As a result, 13 members of the previous ministry were retained in the ministry and at the same time 20 new faces were given a chance to prove their mettle.

The Chief Minister has diligently struck a warning note to his Cabinet colleagues that “non-performers” would be shown the door if they failed to come up to the expectations in the discharge of their duties. He sounded this warning by using the axe on four of his former colleagues --- Mr K. Jana Reddy, Mr J. C. Diwakar Reddy, Mr Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy and Mr R Damodar Reddy.

There are six women in the new ministry, including three who have already served in the earlier YSR cabinet. The three new women ministers are Ms D. K. Aruna, Ms Konda Surekha and Ms Sunitha Laxma Reddy, while for Dr Geetha Reddy, Ms Galla Aruna Kumari and Ms Sabita Indra Reddy will be a second term as ministers.

Keeping in view that the ruling party had bagged seven Assembly seats from the city, the Chief Minister has decided to provide a second ministerial berth. Thus, besides retaining in his new cabinet his former colleague Mr. Mukesh Goud, an opportunity was given to his close confidant, Mr Danam Nagender, to represent the city.

While the Guntur district has the maximum of four ministers in the Cabinet followed by Medak district with three ministers, Adilabad is the only district which went without any representation in the new regime.
20 NEW FACES

The new faces in the new Cabinet are: Mr Jupalli Krishna Rao and Ms D. K.Aruna (both from Mahbubnagar district), Ms Sunitha Laxma Reddy (Nizamabad), Mr Danam Nagender (Hyderabad), Mr R. Venkat Reddy (Khammam), Ms Konda Surekha (Warangal), Mr Vishwaroop (East Godavari), Mr Vatti Vasanth Kumar and Mr. P.Satyanarayana (West Godavari), Mr Duddilla Sridhar Babu (Karimnagar), Mr Komatireddy Venkat Reddy (Nalgonda), Mr Balineni Srinivasa Reddy (Prakasam), Mr P. Ramachandra Reddy (Chittoor), Mr Ahamedullah (Kadapa), Mr Silpa Mohan Reddy (Kurnool), Mr Gade Venkat Reddy and Mr Manikya Varaprasad (Guntur), Mr Sudershan Reddy (Nizamabad), Mr P Balaraju (Visakhapatnam) and Mr K. Parthasarathy (Krishna).

Though in the beginning it was speculated that some members from the Legislative Council would be given an opportunity to serve in the ministry, the Chief Minister retained only the senior leader, Mr K. Rosaiah, a member of the Upper House.

Dr Reddy also took care to ensure social justice in constituting his new cabinet by accommodating 10 persons from the Backward Classes. Besides giving berth to 1 Reddys, representation was given to the Brahmin, Velama, minority and Vaisya communities by accommodating one member from each community.

The district-wise representation in the Cabinet is as follows: Rosaiah, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy (Prakasam) Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, Gade Venkata Reddy, Mopidevi Venkata ramana, Manikya Vara Prasad (Guntur), Dharmana Prasada Rao, Shatrucharla Vijaya Rama Raju (Srikakulam), Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Viswa Roop (East Godavari) Vatti Vasanta Kumar, Pitani Satyanarayana (West Godavari), Botsa Satyanarayana (Vijayanagaram), Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, (Nellore), Sabita Indra Reddy (Ranga Reddy), Ahmadulla (Kadapa), Raghuveera Reddy, Sailajanath (Anantapur), Parthasarathi (Krishna), Mukhesh Goud, Danam Nagender (Hyderabad), Galla Aruna Kumari, Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy (Chittoor), D.K. Aruna, Jupalli Krishna Rao (Mahbubnagar), Shilpa Reddy (Kurnool), Pasupuleti Bala Raju (Visakhapatnam), Sridhar Babu (Karimnagar), Sunita Lakshma Redy, Gita Reddy, Damodar Raja Narasimha ((Medak), Sudarshan Reddy (Nizamabad), Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Konda Surekha (Warangal), Komatireddi Venkata Reddy (Nalgonda), Ramreddi Venkata Reddy (Khammam).
