Hyderabad (Deccan): Satyam Computer Services Ltd, the fraud-hit IT major, would soon get a new name and logo to distance itself from everything that is associated with Ramalinga Raju.
According to sources in the company, clients have suggested during their meeting with the top brass of Tech Mahindra, Satyam’s new owner, to rebrand the company to do away with the negative image that the name Satyam has come to represent because of the Rs 8,000-crore accounting fraud by Raju.
The top brass of Tech Mahindra are meeting the customers of Satyam Computers to convince them to continue their association with the company. The Tech Mahindra chairman, Mr Anand Mahindra, and his senior executives, Mr C.P. Gurnani and Mr Ulhas N. Yargop, are meeting Satyam’s US-based customers. Mr Vineet Nayyar, Tech Mahindra CEO, is meeting European customers and Mr Sanjay Kalra, president (strategic initiatives) is in Australia on client retention programme. They have got a positive response from the clients and are expected to come back next week. The Satyam board, which has four Tech Mahindra representatives, will meet after June 1 and would decide on the new name and logo. “The rebranding exercise should be completed by June 19 — before the Satyam leadership meet scheduled on June 20,” the source said.
However, according to insiders, the board is in favour of retaining the word Satyam with a prefix or suffix. One such name that the board is actively considering is Mahindra Satyam.
Meanwhile, three senior Satyam executives have quit on company on Sunday to join Bengaluru-based infrastruture services company Taurus United headed by Mr Venkatesh Rodham, former Satyam BPO CEO, who declined the offer of Satyam CEO post by the government-appointed board. The executives, who quit the company include Mr Naresh Jhangiani, global HR head, Satyam BPO, Mr V. Satyanandan, head, corporate services, Satyam BPO and Mr Kulwinder Singh, the head of marketing, Asia Pacific, Satyam Computers.
