Mumbai: In the current cash-strapped times, making a moviehas never been easier. With Shamiana, the short film club celebrating its one year anniversary, have opened up new avenues for all those who want to don the director's hatwithout burning a hole in their pocket. All you have to do is to come up with an impressive concept for a short film, and you get to pair up with leading short film directors from the city,, along with landing yourself a an array of interesting actors, technicians and support staff.
According to sources, Shamiana is in talks with noted directors like Subhash Ghai, Ashutosh Gowarikar and Farhan Akhtar to be a part of the initiative. Also they will provide actors like Tom Alter, Nandana Sen, Juhi Babbar, Sonali Kulkarni, Ashish Roy Kapoor and others to act for you in your dream project.
Cyrus Dastur who runs Shamiana says, "We would be looking at having top notch directors and we are in talks. It is like a ready-made package, and definitely recession-proof. Our organisation works on good will, and I am glad that some of the senior members from the industry are part of this initiative."
According to Dastur, the film club reaches to almost half a million people across the country and has screened more than 400 short films to date. Talking about the current initiative, he says, "We are now going a step ahead from screening the best of short films to provide a platform to amateurs to maketheir own movies. There is no money involved and no eligibility criteria."
Till now around 2000 entries of movie concepts have poured in and another 5000 are expected in the next two weeks. Of the total, eight winning ideas will be given a choice of director and cast for their movie.
