Kandhasamy Audio Launch Gallery

Susi Ganeshan’s Kandhasamy (Mallana in Telugu), starring Vikram and Shriya Saran audio launch was held Sunday at the Chennai Trade Center. Devi Sri Prasad is the music director.

A brief on the songs in the film Kanthaswamy…

The first song in the album is Excuse Me Mr Kanthasamy… sung by Suchitra and Vikram. It creates a romantic mood as the rich and arrogant heroine wants to impress the hero over a cup of coffee, and there is a lot of variation in the music.

The second song, sung by Rita, has been shot on Shriya and Italian dancers against the backdrop of the majestic opera house. The music has a Latino feel to it as the song starts with the Italian word Allgra….

The third song is a peppy and sensuous song Mia, Mia Pole…,

while the fourth song in the album is a crazy number in which lyric writer Viveka has listed all kinds of dishes and snacks that are unique to Chennai like kothu parotta and sundal.

The fifth song is Mambo Mamia… shot in the famous bull ring in Mexico on the lead pair and Mexican dancers accompany them.

Then, there is the item number En Peru Meenakumari, En Ooru Kanyakumari… sung by Malathi and picturised by Susi in a very different way.

There is no other male voice in the album other than Vikram’s. Vikam has sung four songs for the movie Kanthasamy. ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram, Shriya, Susi Ganesan, Kalaipuli S Thanu, A.R. Rahman , KRG, Shankar Ganesh, Hari, Abirami Ramanathan, Y Gee Mahendran, S A Chandrasekar, Bhagiyaraj, Viveha, Mansoor Alikhan, Keerthi Chawla, Tejashree were made the event. Movie News: Mani Ratnam is upset!

Sources close to ace Mani Ratnam revealed that the director is upset with some media reports claiming the director wants to shoot his ongoing big budget bilingual tentatively titled RavanAsokavanam in Sri Lanka.

It was earlier said that Mani Ratnam would shift his shooting location to Sri Lanka for canning some important scenes after completing forthcoming second schedule at Silent Valley, Kerala. He was reportedly working hard to obtain the necessary permission from the governments of India and Sri Lanka to shoot the film there.

It is now said that Mani Ratnam actually never wanted to shoot the film in Sri Lanka because of the atrocities being committed against Tamils; he had never sought any support or help from the Sri Lankan government either. He has decided to shoot the remaining parts of his film in Pollachi (Tamil Nadu) and in Kerala.

As his doctors have advised Mani Ratnam to take rest, his wife Suhasini will assist Mani Ratnam to coordinate with a lot of work behind the scenes. A doctor will also accompany the director for a few days. Rumoured to be based on the grand epic Ramayana, Ravan is produced by Mani Ratnam's sister Sharda under Ratnam's banner Madras Talkies.

News: LTTE chief Prabhakaran killed: Lanka govt

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s state television station announced on Monday that Tamil Tiger rebel chief Velupillai Prabhakaran has been killed, and the Prabhakaran LTTE chief Prabhakaran was shot dead while trying to flee government troops, a senior defence official said.

army commander said the last pockets of rebel resistance have been cleared from the north.

Prabhakaran’s death would spell the end of a more than three-decade quest by the rebel leader for a separate state for minority Tamils across northern and eastern Sri Lanka.

Rupavahini television, the state broadcaster, broke into its regular programming Monday afternoon to announce Prabakharan’s death. They gave no details of how he was killed.

The government information department also sent a text message to cell phones across the country announcing Prabhakaran was killed along with his top deputies, who were known as Soosai and Pottu Amman.

Sri Lanka’s army chief, Lt. Gen. Sareth Fonseka, told television his troops routed the last rebels from the northern war zone Monday morning and were working to identify Prabhakaran’s body from among the dead.

"We can announce very responsibly that we have liberated the whole country from terrorism," he told state television.

Prabhakaran was in a small convoy of a van and ambulance along with several close aides which tried to drive out of the battle zone, but was attacked and killed, the senior defence ministry official said.

"He was killed with two others inside the vehicle. There will be a formal announcement later," the official said on condition he not be named.

"When the troops opened fire, the van tried to get away, but it was also hit," said another high-level source from the military. "The vehicle caught fire."

The defence ministry said the rebels’ leadership was decimated, heralding an end to their decades-old battle to carve out an independent ethnic homeland in the north of the island.

Troops also found the bodies of Prabhakaran’s 24-year-old son Charles Anthony, the group’s political wing leader B. Nadesan, and the head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Peace Secretariat, S Pulideevan.

Also reportedly found dead were the LTTE’s police chief Ilango, its eastern leader, S Ramesh, and deputy intelligence chief Kapil Amman.

In a dramatic announcement, the guerrillas acknowledged Sunday that their decades-old battle for an independent ethnic homeland had reached its "bitter end" -- signalling Asia’s longest running civil war was all but over.

The separatist rebels were once one of the world’s most feared guerrilla armies, and ran a de facto mini-state spanning a third of the island before the government began a major offensive two years ago.

"We have decided to silence our guns. Our only regrets are for the lives lost and that we could not hold out for longer," Selvarasa Pathmanathan, the Tigers’ chief of international relations, said in a statement.

But his appeals for peace talks -- rather than a surrender -- were flatly rejected by the government, and the defence ministry said soldiers were being sent in to crush the diehard remnants and recapture "every inch of land."

Sri Lanka’s hawkish president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, will open a new session of parliament on Tuesday with an address that will officially mark the ending of the war.

The conflict has left more than 70,000 dead from pitched battles, suicide attacks, bomb strikes and assassinations. The LTTE emerged in the 1970s, with all-out war breaking out in the early 1980s.

The capital Colombo, which has been frequently hit by Tiger suicide attacks over the past quarter century, saw street celebrations which lasted well into Sunday night.

Authorities have been determined to capture, kill or recover Prabhakaran’s body amid fears his escape may lead to an attempt to rebuild the LTTE and usher in a new cycle of violence.

The Sri Lankan government’s moment of triumph has also come at the cost of thousands of innocent lives lost in indiscriminate shelling, according to the United Nations. The UN’s rights body now wants a war crimes probe.

The International Committee of the Red Cross, the only neutral organisation that has been allowed to work in the war zone, has for its part described "an unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe."

But Sri Lanka has shrugged off the international pressure.

"There was no bloodbath as some people feared," human rights minister Mahinda Samarasinghe told reporters. "Everybody has come out safely and they are being looked after by the government."

But now the entire speculations end here as we at Bollywood Hungama bring you the exclusive preview watch of what Teen Patti is all about. Here's a sneak peek into the film.

Perci Trachtenberg (Ben Kingsley), widely regarded as the world's greatest living mathematician, meets Venkat Subramaniam (Amitabh Bachchan), a reclusive math genius from India, who has cracked a theory that could redefine the principles of probability and randomness. Aware that he is on the precipice of an extraordinary discovery, one that could find applications across various sciences, Venkat is encouraged to test his theory in the real world. But what starts out as an experiment between a charismatic young professor and an eccentric older one soon descends into a game neither of them can control. Convinced that Venkat's discovery has the originality and significance to change the narrative arc of mathematics, Perci understands that Venkat's theory, in essence, questions the idea of what is random and what is fated. A surprising and deeply moving redemption, initiated by Perci, closes this stupendously modern film that is as much about the private equations of honour and chance, as it is about knowledge that can change the world.

News: Congress Leadesr demand recounting in Uravakonda

ANANTAPUR: Congress party leaders and workers staged a protest at the collectorate here on Sunday demanding recounting in Uravakonda assembly segment blaming that the returning officer (RO) had hastily issued the winning declaration for TDP candidate P Kesav.

Kesav won by a thin 242 votes against his Congress rival Y Visweswar Reddy. Visweswar along with Anantapur MP-elect A Venkatrami Reddy and other leaders staged a dharna demanding recounting. They alleged that the RO had colluded with the TDP candidate and issued the declaration.

In the close finish, Kesav got 64,741 votes while Visweswar secured 64,499 votes and PRP candidate got 8255 votes. Kesav defeated Visweswar Reddy by a small margin of 242 votes.

"We have several doubts on the counting process and urged for recounting on Saturday but the RO urgently issued the winning declaration form to the TDP candidate," Visweswar alleged. Meanwhile, collector Anil Kumar said he would bring the matter to the notice of the Election Commission.

News: Chiranjeevi loses not just elections but respect too

KAKINADA: Chiranjeevi’s supposed stronghold areas and potential vote banks - East and West Godavari - broke into spontaneous celebrations late on Saturday and early Sunday as locals “rejoiced’’ over the news of the superstar’s defeat. Even Prajarajyam party workers were seen distributing sweets when the news of Allu Aravind’s Anakapalli defeat flashed on TV screens.

“We are very happy. These fellows (Chiranjeevi and Allu Aravind) were selling tickets in their first election itself, even before they came to power. They would have looted the state had they won,’’ a resident of East Godavari told TOI. Party workers and residents of the twin districts, from where PRP won just one seat, were at their vitriolic best on Saturday as they now possibly knew there was no point in being politically correct anymore. “We wanted to see Chiranjeevi as the chief minister.

But, now we have given up the hope in disgust,’’ said a PRP leader in Kakinada. He further said, “Parties become polluted and leaders become corrupt only after a few years into politics. But in PRP, the rot set in right from the beginning.’’ Another PRP leader said that Chiranjeevi and his family did not trust anyone except Aravind. “That has resulted in this disaster. They did not take the opinion of the cadre at any level,’’ he said.

Party workers said tickets were given to “worthless candidates,” ignoring the lists given by the cadre. The biggest complaint among the cadre is that Allu Aravind stood as a wall between them and Chiranjeevi and this, they say, was the main reason why the party was swept out. “Allu Aravind deserved to be defeated. Not only did he mislead Chiranjeevi on important issues, he alienated many leaders and forced them to leave the party,’’ said a party leader blaming Aravind for selling party tickets, unmindful of the candidates’ credentials, character and capacity.

The party cadre had apparently advised Chiranjeevi to contest from Narasapuram constituency but he chose Palakollu. “It is a good example of how blind the party leadership was to the aspirations of the party cadre,’’ another PRP leader said.

While some Chiru fans here said that even the single seat won by PRP should have been lost, a few remained loyal saying that the celebrations in the two districts were inappropriate. “We cannot see him being insulted by party workers,’’ said a Chiranjeevi Yuvatha district leader in West Godavari. But such sentiments were rare.

Clearly, Chiranjeevi has lost a lot more than just an election. Respect and fans could just be added to the list of his losses.

News: AP likely to get 5 berths in Union Cabinet

NEW DELHI/HYDERABAD: Even as an air of expectation hangs in the air in the state as to how many Union cabinet berths will be given to Andhra Pradesh in view of the fact that it sent the largest number of MPs for the ruling party from any state, chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, in a rare display of assertion, said AP deserved a good representation at the Centre.

The chief minister met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and discussed the formation of the state cabinet as well as the number of berths for the AP MPs in the Union cabinet. According to sources, the party high command gave him an assurance it would take proper care of the state for its tremendous performance in the Lok Sabha elections despite various pressures from the allies.

At least five MPs are likely to get a berth in the Union cabinet, they said. They include all the four ministers who got re-elected, S Jaipal Reddy, D Purandeswari, Panabaka Lakshmi and Pallam Raju. Among the new faces, sources say Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal who is considered to be a close associate of the chief minister is in the race.

Rajagopal in fact made his intention clear when he said that he would not mind even if he does not get a berth in the Union cabinet provided Pranahita-Chevella and Polavaram projects were taken up as national projects.

Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, who got elected from Eluru, is also a front runner as is Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, the strongman from Guntur. Madhu Yaski Goud, who claims to be close to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, is another front runner, though it is not clear whether YSR will push his case given the animosity between the two. Killi Kruparani from Srikakulam, who proved to be a giant killer by defeating four-time MP and TDP Parliamentary Party leader K Yerrannaidu, is another aspirant.

According to the sources, irrigation, agriculture, water resources, mines and power are some of the key central ministries that YSR would seek keeping in mind the major projects in the state which require central approval and funding.

For his council of ministers in the state, the CM is learnt to have indicated that he would retain some of the present team and also infuse some fresh blood into the team. Sources point out that the CM may retain finance minister K Rosaiah, home minister K Jana Reddy, mines and geology minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, major industries minister J Geetha Reddy, information minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, revenue minister D Prasada Rao, health education minister Galla Aruna Kumari, Pilli Subash Chandra Bose and transport minister Kanna Lakshminarayana.

News: Former aide lashes out at Chiranjeevi

HYDERABAD: Prajarajyam president K Chiranjeevi on Sunday came under a scathing attack from his former aide Parakala Prabhakar, with the latter accusing him of forcing candidates to part with their movable and immovable assets in return for a ticket of the party.

Addressing a crowded media conference, Parakala, who quit PRP a month ago accusing it of functioning like a company, said that the PRP bosses owed people of Andhra Pradesh a public apology. He said his allegations against the PRP bosses before he quit the party were vindicated by the poor mandate to the party. He also said that Saturday’s verdict was a slap on the face of people who tried to hoodwink the voter through their theatrical performances.

He said people in Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra buried PRP in the elections without a trace as they could see the hidden agenda of the PRP bosses. This verdict would also deter any other actor from taking to politics with an ulterior motive. "Bosses who thought they would be voted because of their glamour have been shown their place in real life," he said.

Parakala alleged that PRP bosses forced aspirants to part with their movable and immovable assets like finances, plots, houses, land parcels and cinema halls in return for a ticket of the party. "The day is not far away when you will hear news about people asking PRP bosses to return their respective properties that were forcibly taken away from them. I personally feel that the PRP bosses will return these assets if candidates who feel cheated insist for the same at the earliest, as there have been instances wherein they have returned money to candidates after failing to allot a seat to them," he pointed out.

Parakala said Chiranjeevi was suffering from a disorder which psychiatrists describe as an illusion of grandeur, wherein people start to feel that they are able to visualize the shape of things to come according to their wishes. "It takes only six months for him to get cured," he pointed out.

Parakala said the election results showed that PRP’s edifice was built on deceit and mistrust. "Personal agenda was of paramount importance to PRP, hence they were rejected at the hustings," he said.

Urging the PRP bosses to do a thorough introspection, Parakala suggested them to approach the Registrar of Companies to register and later shut it down in the interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh. They (PRP bosses) neither cared for the candidates nor received their phones all through the elections. "The ones who could win was only because of their respective personal charisma and efforts," he said.

News: TDP blames GA partners for the loss

HYDERABAD: The blame game in the opposition camp has begun. While the Telugu Desam Party feels that the efforts put in by the party rank and file got diluted because of joining hands with TRS and Left parties. On the other hand, the CPI feels that TDP and TRS had violated the understanding in seat sharing and created confusion leading to drubbing in the polls.

The feeling among the party workers is that the party should not have left 110 seats for the allies particularly when it had grown in strength in Telangana and coastal districts. "The strategy has boomeranged," a senior leader said. "If the party had gone alone, it would have certainly won another 50-60 seats," the party felt.

It also expressed serious concern over the dismal performance of TRS. TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao had forced the party to part with 33 seats including several constituencies where TRS had no strength causing damage for TDP, they felt.

The TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who held a review meeting with party leaders on Sunday, is learnt to have expressed his serious concern over the internal bickerings in the party particularly in Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam districts particularly among the senior leaders and remarked that this had contributed to the poor performance of the party in these three districts. The Yuvagarjna and Naidu’s Mee Kosam yatra had given a new enthusiasm to the cadre but this could not get converted into votes effectively because of infighting among the leaders, Naidu is learnt to have felt.

The party is also of the opinion that it needs to re-work its strategies and strengthen the party in East and West Godavari as well as north coastal districts. Though it had done much better than last time, it needs to regain the lost paradise, Naidu is understood to have said.

A revamping of the party structure and infusing new blood are among the strategies that are being examined. The seniors need to be tamed, Naidu feels. Naidu it may be recalled had been assuring the cadre that the party would give due recognition to them. He now proposes to convene review meeting once every three months and involve the cadre in various activities to see that they do not get demoralised.

Meanwhile, the TDLP meeting is likely to be convened on Monday or Tuesday to elect Naidu as the leader of the legislature party.
