Bollywood news: Aishwarya N Aishwarya

We all know that the Bachchan bahu is a busy bee.
Apart from her many shoots she also has to whisk off to places like the Cannes Film Festival to fulfill her many commitments. Plus she also has her homely duties, like how she went to Bhopal recently to visit hubby’s Nani before heading off to Cannes.
In the last few months she’s been stuck with Rajinikant’s ‘Endhiran’ that has superstar Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai pairing up for the first time. Ash has reportedly pocketed a whopping six crores for the project.
She’s also been busy with a multi lingual project with ace director Mani Rathnam with Ash and hubby dearest in lead roles.
The flick has some influence from Ramayana and hence has the title ‘Raavan’.
It deals with the hero kidnapping another man’s wife and what happens thereafter.
Interestingly Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth will be lending her voice for Ash’s character in Shankar’s ‘Endhiran’ which also stars her father as well as Mani Rathnam’s ‘Raavan’.
Ash is also supposedly happy with the directors’ choice
Another similarity is that double Oscar award winner A.R. Rahman will be scoring the music.
Now we need to wait and watch to see how the two ambitious films fare at the box office

Cricket News: Rohit Sharma named top under-23 cricketer in IPL

Johannesburg, May 23:
Rohit Sharma has been named the winner of the Citi Under-23 Success of the Tournament in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which concludes Sunday.
A three-member committee comprising former Indian captains and members of the IPL Governing Council Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi adjudicated the contest.
They reached an unanimous decision that Sharma has been the best cricketer in the Under-23 category in the IPL.
Sharma, who won Rs.1 million for the award, scored 333 runs at an average of 27.75, at a strike rate of 119. He has also taken 11 wickets at an average of 11.45.
Sharma was delighted to be named the winner.
"It is a great honour to be named the Citi Under-23 Success of the League. I am very pleased with my form in South Africa, it has been a fantastic competition and I have really enjoyed it. To be recognised for my achievements by three of the living legends of Indian cricket is a great thrill for me," he said.
IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi also lauded Sharma's performance. "His performances have helped light up the DLF IPL. He is without doubt one of the best young cricketers in the world, and he has a very exciting future with both Deccan Chargers and India," he said.
N. Rajashekaran, Country Business Manager, Global Business Group, Citi India said: "At Citi, we take great pride in promoting young and upcoming talent and contributing towards their coaching, mentoring and training.
"The DLF IPL is an excellent springboard for young players to showcase their cricketing prowess. We hope that (Sharma) will make both his country and his fans across the globe proud in the years to come."

Cricket News: Modi rules out inclusion of fifth overseas player

Centurion, May 23:
IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi has insisted that there will be no change in the number of overseas players in the playing XI as advocated by many aligned with the tournament itself.
''We have had quite few requests from the franchises on that. For the moment we will have only four overseas players in a playing XI,'' Modi said at a press conference yesterday before the semi-final match between Hyderabad Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders director of cricket operations John Buchanan and Daredevils' coach Greg Shipperd had asked for the inclusion of a fifth foreign player in the playing XI top to strengthen the teams in the IPL.
Modi also felt that the tournament had served its purpose because a lot of young and unknown players had got a chance to show their national selectors their true worth.
''Look at Yusuf Abdulla, no one knew much about him before the tournament. But now he has performed and he is the South African team.
''Then there are others like Shane Harwood, I can keep rattling off names who have done well. So it has been a great platform for all these cricketers,'' he said.

Cricket News: Gilchrist carries Deccan into the final

Centurion—There’s no rust on this baby. Adam Gilchrist didn’t just blow the Delhi Daredevils out with a blitzkrieg but also backed up his vow at the end of a disappointing 2008 to give fans in Hyderabad more to cheer for in 2009.
Gilchrist played a pivotal role in bringing last season’s wooden spoon holders this far and tonight, in the cauldron of a semi-final, he treated Centurion to a stunning display of hitting.
His assault on Delhi’s bewildered bowlers turned what threatened to be a tricky chase into a no-contest as Deccan chased down 154 with six wickets in hand and 14 balls to spare. Deccan have duly earned the right to be in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Gilchrist had looked like a man with a plan when, at the toss, he said Deccan would field and try and keep the opposition to an achievable target. With teams not always chasing down totals in the vicinity of 160 easily under lights at Centurion, Deccan’s chase wasn’t expected to be an easy one. It took Gilchrist five deliveries to dismiss such thoughts. Dirk Nannes, one of the success stories of this IPL, was flayed for five consecutive boundaries in the first over, Gilchrist pulling, cutting and driving with power. Nannes was not needed again until the 11th over by which time Deccan were well on their way. That assault set a trend that continued through Gilchrist’s innings as he made the semi-final his own. Ashish Nehra bowled Herschelle Gibbs for a duck but Gilchrist was in a hurry, clobbering Pradeep Sangwan’s first three balls for four, four and six. No frills, just excellent bat speed and powerful wrists. In three overs Deccan were 41 for 1, out of which Nehra’s first over cost just three.
Nehra’s second was nowhere as controlled. Gilchrist drove a no-ball for four and drilled the free hit for a straight six to raise Deccan’s fifty in 23 deliveries - his contribution being 48 from 14 balls. His half-century needed just 17 balls, the fastest of the IPL. Virender Sehwag came on for the first and last time in the tournament, with Gilchrist plundering three successive sixes in a 25-run over. It was the Gilchrist of old, the man who put the fear of God in bowlers the world over.
Why Sehwag brought himself on before Amit Mishra and the crafty Rajat Bhatia on a sluggish track will go down as one of the IPL’s blunders, because the legspinner struck almost immediately.
