Here is the details regarding A.R Rahman’s music school “KM Music Conservatory“.

km-conservatory-logo.gifThe mission of the KM Music Conservatory is to provide students with a strong artistic, intellectual, and technical foundation for pursuing professional careers in music. The KM Music Conservatory and Audio Media Education will be India’s first Apple authorized training center, and it will be located at Chennai.

The KM Music Conservatory is located in Kodambakkam, Chennai, adjacent to the AM Studios complex and the Music Technology classes will be held at the Audio Media Education facility at Alwarpet. This is a temporary accommodation until 2009, when the larger facility will be available.

Preparatory Program

Admissions are open to all regardless of education and prior music training (any age group). This part-time course will prepare students for admission into the Foundation Program.

Instruments currently offered:
Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Percussion, Hindustani and Western Voice, Guitar, and Harp

Proposed:
Double Bass, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone

Duration: 2 to 5 Years

Foundation Program

Sundents who enroll in this course will undergo rigorous training in music that provides students with the skills and techniques to understand and perform a variety of musical styles. In addition students will also be offered an education in music technology offered by Audio Media Education. This course will prepare students for admission into the Degree Program.

Courses of study will include:

  • Music Theory
  • Music History
  • Music Appreciation
  • Sight-singing
  • Choir
  • Private Instructions in Voice or Primary Instrument
  • Basic Piano
  • Audio Engineering Theory
  • Apple Certified Logic Pro Course

Duration: 1 - 2 years

Proposed Program

Degree Program:

Bachelor’s Degree in Western and Indian Music and Music Technology, with a focus in either performance or composition. A student must have completed the Foundation Program prior to taking this degree program.

Concentrations: Performance, Composition, Music Technology
Duration: 3 years

Post-Graduate Programs:

Master’s Degree:

A student must have completed the FBachelor’s Degree prior to taking this degree program.

Courses of study will include:

  • Music Performance
  • Composition
  • Music Technology
  • and Music Education

Duration of course: 2 years.

Diploma in Indian Music and Music Technology: A Foreign Exchange Program

This program is designed especially for international students who wish to spend a semester or more working and studying music in Chennai.

Courses of study will include:

  • Carnatic Music
  • Hindustani Music

Duration: 1 year.
